Cesar Piette

César Piette, a French artist, employs traditional techniques in his artwork, drawing on the history of figurative painting. Using monochromatic layers, perspective, light, composition, and shading, he creates “hyperplastic” images that incorporate three-dimensional effects, intersecting with design, photography, and advertising. While Piette’s background lies in illustration, comics, and video games, he deliberately shuns digital imagery, viewing his work as a playful construction game. He places emphasis on the artificial object and merges the playful nature of toys with art historical references, resulting in subjects that are resolutely classical, such as nudes, birds, and vanitas.
